Millennium Churches, Italy
Approximately 50 Millennium churches where commissioned and built to celebrate 2000 years of Christianity by an initiative of Saint, Pope John Paul II. I’ve had the opportunity to visit two of these churches regularly with students during study abroad trips. The first church, La Chiesa del Dio Padre Misericordioso (God our Merciful Father), more commonly known as the “Jubilee Church,” by American architect Richard Meier, is in a suburb just outside of Rome. The second church, Chiesa di San Paolo Apostolo (St. Paul the Apostle), by the Italian Architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas is in Foligno, Italy. This gallery contains a collection of sketches from several visits to both locations while drawing with students.
