Sketchbooks

My art-making is shaped by regular drawing practice. Drawing is a way of visual thinking, recording, and processing. For me this practice combines the study of architectural history with plein-air observational drawing to document and understand space. I have documented sacred and secular buildings around Rome, Assisi, Umbria, Tuscany and beyond. I have done this as both an artist and an educator. During multiple study abroad programs, I have assisted art and design students in their appreciation of significant historical buildings through the act of observational drawing.  The drawings presented in this gallery are a sample from my own travel sketchbooks. The sketches have been used in lectures, demonstrations, and exhibitions.
